All students will be required to complete the following courses for graduation.
Course Description
T101 Introduction to Barbering: History of Barbering
This one-hour introductory class delves into the history of barbering from 20AD to present time.
T102 Barber Laws and Rules
This one-hour class is a refresher course on the current laws governing barbering in the state of Texas.
T103 Barber Implement, Tools and Equipment
This course will teach identification and usage of barbering tools and its care. The students will learn the proper safe handling protocols as well as safety guidelines regarding disposal and storage.
T104 Professional Barbering: Men’s Haircutting
This course focuses on the special styles and issues associated with men’s haircuts. Students learn to analyze growth patterns of the head. The latest trending styles as well as crew cuts and flat tops are covered. Specific techniques such as clipper cutting, razor cutting, clipper-over-comb and shear-over-comb are also taught.
T105 Professional Barbering: Shaving
This course introduces the basic principles of beard and mustache shaving and design. Students begin with instruction in skin analysis, hair texture and grain of facial hair. Instruction and demonstration of standard cutting strokes and positions is provided. The rest of the course is dedicated to techniques in beard and mustache design and trimming. Shaving and after-shaving products are discussed.
T106 Professional Barbering: Facial Hair Care and Design
This course focuses issues associated with men’s facial hair. Students learn to analyze growth patterns of facial hair as well as main skin issues related to beard and mustache care. Beard and mustache trims and skin care are covered. Specific techniques using straight razors and safety razors are taught.
T107 Review: Hair Color
Curriculum covers the principles of color theory and chemistry as it relates to hair. Coloring safety precautions, analysis of scalp and hair, coloring correction and techniques for using hydrogen peroxide are discussed, along with methods of hair coloring and lightening.
T108 Review: Permanent Waving and Relaxing
Review of the use of chemicals to break and reform the bonds of hair both in permanent waving and relaxing.
T109 Review: Shampooing and Conditioning
Students review how to evaluate hair and scalp and identify possible disorders. Instruction covers various types of hair, shampoos and scalp treatment. Proper techniques of scalp massage, hygiene, shampooing and draping are taught. Students also learn which shampoo and rinse products to use on different types of hair.
T110 Review: Blow Dry and Styling
Basic blow-drying techniques with heavy emphasis on styling using various products and how to achieve all men’s hairstyles will be covered in this course.
T111 Review: Nail Care
Review of all aspects of nail care for men including review of all possible nail conditions which may be encountered and how to treat for them.
T112 Review: Facial Treatments and Skin Care
This course is a review of the difference in men and women’s skin chemistry and available and appropriate treatments and care. Esthetic treatments such as chemical peels along with basic care will be covered.
T113 Science of Barbering: Anatomy and Physiology Review
This course will review the human body system as it pertains to the science of barbering.
P114 Practical: Men’s Haircutting
Following the haircutting review, students work on models and manikin heads and perform various haircuts. Field trips to working barber salons will be included as part of the course as well as various video training guides specifically designed for cosmetologists’ crossing over to barber program.
P115 Practical: Shaving
Along with the shaving theory class, students learn to handle shave implements and start on their journey to the art of shaving. The students are taught all the techniques of straight razor and safety razor shaves with the class culminating in students performing the traditional hot lather shaves in a high-end luxury salon.
P117 Practical: Men’s Hair Coloring
Students work on models to perform hair coloring and lightening, learning to use various chemicals and products with special emphasis on semi permanent hair coloring that are most popular with male clientele.

P118 Practical: Permanent Waving and Relaxing
Students will perform permanent waving and relaxing on manikin heads and models, if available.
P119 Practical: Facial Treatments
Students perform facial treatments on other students and models using techniques with emphasis on products designed especially for men’s skin.
P120 Practical: Shampooing and Conditioning
Continuation and utilization of concepts taught in Cosmetology school in regards to shampooing and conditioning especially for men’s hair types.
P121 Practical: Nail Care
Students perform manicures designed specifically for men on models and other students with emphasis on maintenance and preventative.
P122 Professional: Career, Customer Relations and Management
Part of being a successful barber or salon owner involves acquiring knowledge and skills in customer service and management. This course instructs students in salon and barbershop management and successful customer interaction. Specific areas may include retail marketing, advertising and job search skills.
